Do you want to swim in a lake bordering three different countries? Lake Constance is the place for you! Enjoy the sun, kayak, or dive into the turquoise waters of one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe.
On our way to Liechtenstein, we stopped for a quick dive in Lake Constance, or as the Germans call it - Bodensee.
The lake is perfect for a warm summer day. You can take a swim, kayak, paddleboard, or just get sunkissed next to the water. The scenes around the lake are spectacular as it has borders with Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. If you have a bike, you can drive all around on a nice bike path, with a total of 260 km.
We found a place to park and dipped in the water between Bregenz and Lochau. No matter in which part of the lake you are situated, there are many points with designated green areas for chilling and stairs or ladders accessing the water.
The 63-kilometer-long lake is fed by the Rhine river, and it consists of two connecting parts. The Untersee is the lower lake, and the Obersee is the upper one.
The warm turquoise water makes the lake an attractive destination for many locals and tourists alike.
We went on a Saturday, and I expected a super overcrowded, uncomfortable situation. I was so wrong. I guess because of the size of it, everybody can spread around the lake and there isn’t a moment of too many people at the same spot. This makes the lake even more inviting to people from all over.
For adrenaline junkies, there are zeppelin tours starting from many points around the lake. The closest one to us was Friedrichshafen. Unfortunately, after checking the price (490 euros p.p), we decided that’s far from our budget and we skipped it.
If a zeppelin is too expensive for you too, and you don’t fancy a bike ride either, you can catch a train and make a full trip around the lake. There are many beautiful cities and spots to be seen along the route.
We spent a few hours and enjoyed Bodensee to its fullest. After we exhausted ourselves by kayaking, we jumped into the water for a refreshing swim and ended up in an ice cream shop.
Lake Constance is perfect as a final destination or for a quick swim on the way to another place. A refreshing dip is a must as it is situated next to major roads, with many parking lots along the way, making it the perfect stop for a break.
